Who Can Benefit?

It is estimated that 10% of Americans can experience voice problems at any given moment and 25% of the population engage in work that is vocally demanding. We at The Voice Center of Rochester realize the tremendous impact voice problems can have on your life. If your voice is your profession, whether you’re a sales person, public servant, executive, actor, vocalist, educator, minister or an auctioneer, your voice is your most valuable tool! The Voice Center of Rochester specializes in helping not only voice professionals but also those patients in all walks of life who present with hoarsness.

Comprehensive Voice Evaluation

Following a physical exam by a Board Certified Otolaryngologist (ear, nose and throat specialist) a comprehensive profile of each patient's voice is developed.  Advanced techniques, including videostroboscopy are employed in the office setting to view the vocal folds in action while the patient is speaking or singing, and in slow motion, to find otherwise undetectable problems.  With the capability to record and analyze what patients do with their vocal cords to produce various sounds, immediate feedback can be provided to help modify detrimental behaviors.

Treatment Alternatives

The Voice Center is equipped to treat patients with the optimum combination of medical, surgical and behavioral interventions.  Whether voice problems arise from the stresses of performing, allergies or sinus disorders, overuse or a medical situation, the Voice Center is a complete resource for diagnosis and treatment.

Patients whose problems result from allergies or sinus problems are often candidates for medical treatment, which can include drug therapy to correct and preserve laryngeal function.  Patients who have lesions of the larynx benefit from surgical treatment (employing state-of-the-art laser equipment where indicated).  These procedures can be performed on an out-patient basis with minimal disruption in lifestyle.

The Voice Center is one of the few facilities in the country that offers phonosurgery, a highly specialized procedure which “fine tunes” the vocal cords for maximum performance.  Phonosurgery is also used in rehabilitating the voices of patients with vocal paralysis.
