Voice Disorders
Whether voice problems arise from the stresses of performing, allergies, sinus disorders, overuse or a medical situation, we are a complete resource for diagnosis and treatment.
We not only help voice professionals, but patients from all walks of life who come to us with symptoms of hoarseness. After a thorough physical exam by a board-certified otolaryngologist, we prepare a comprehensive profile for each patient.
We use advanced techniques, such as videostroboscopy, to view the vocal folds while a patient is speaking or singing. Examining the action of the vocal folds in slow motion allows us to find otherwise undetectable problems and provide immediate feedback that can help a patient modify detrimental behaviors.
Patients with problems resulting from allergies or sinus difficulties are often candidates for medical treatment. Patients with lesions of the larynx often require surgical treatment. These procedures, using laser equipment where appropriate, can be performed on an outpatient basis with minimal disruption to a patient’s lifestyle.
We are one of the few facilities in the country that offers laryngeal framework phonosurgery, a highly specialized procedure that “fine tunes” the vocal cords for maximum performance. Phonosurgery is also used in rehabilitating the voices of patients with vocal cord paralysis.
