Endocrine Surgery

We adhere closely to American Thyroid Association evidence-based guidelines for the management of thyroid cancer, which include a requirement for an evaluation of any patient with a dominant thyroid nodule larger than one centimeter.

Aspiration biopsies most often can be performed in our offices or can be ordered to be performed with ultrasound. For thyroid conditions requiring surgery, we typically collaborate with endocrinology experts or nuclear medicine experts. In most cases, thyroid surgery — including neck dissection when needed — can be performed on a short-stay basis.

For patients with asymptomatic primary hyperparathyroidism, as well as those with symptoms of kidney stones, osteoporosis and fatigue, we generally combine special radiological localizing procedures and rapid assay intra-operative blood tests with minimal-access surgical approaches. The result is a 95-percent cure rate. We also assist neurosurgeons in approaches to the cervical spine and to the skull base for the removal of pituitary tumors.
